Telefônica vai usar satélites da OneWeb para levar internet 5G à América Latina e Europa
A Telefônica tem um novo parceiro para levar internet 5G para regiões remotas. A Telefônica Global Solutions (TGS), subsidiária da empresa voltada para o atacado, fechou um acordo com a OneWeb para revenda de capacidade de satélites na América Latina e na Europa.
Dona da Vivo, a Telefônica espera oferecer conectividade para governos e empresas, incluindo operadoras e provedores de internet.
A OneWeb é uma operadora de satélites de órbita baixa controlada pelo governo britânico e pelo grupo Barthi Global, da Índia. A empresa é uma das principais concorrentes da Starlink, subsidiária da SpaceX, de Elon Musk, voltada a comunicações por satélite.
Os satélites da OneWeb funcionarão como um “ponto de conexão” para redes móveis 4G e 5G da Telefônica. Eles podem funcionar como reforço de rede já existente em locais críticos ou oferendo capacidade adicional em situações especiais.
Em comunicado divulgado no dia 13 de maio, a TGS afirmou que a OneWeb vai ajudar a Telefônica a expandir a cobertura móvel e estender a conectividade corporativa.
A revenda de serviços pode ser usada por provedores de internet e outras operadoras para levar internet a zonas rurais e remotas da América Latina e da Europa.
